What You'll Be Creating

With the implementation of AI in the creative world, Envato has introduced its own collection of AI features via Envato Labs. In this tutorial, we'll be creating a movie poster using ImageGen and ImageEdit

With an Envato subscription, you can create eye-catching designs with simple or detailed prompts in just a few minutes. From here, you can create, tweak, and modify your image until you're completely satisfied. Take it a step further and use ImageEdit—an AI photo editing tool—to crop, expand, erase, or add to your image.

Let's dive deeper into these AI tools and see what we can accomplish.

1. How to access ImageGen

You'll need an active Envato subscription to access the AI image generation features. In the top toolbar near the search bar, select AI Labs. A dropdown will appear, and Generate Images (beta) will be one of the options to choose from. In the next section, we'll explore all the different ways and image generation techniques you can try to design the perfect movie poster

2. How to design a movie poster using AI ImageGen

Step 1

Start by describing the type of image you want to create. For this example, I will be using lone astronaut floating in space with aliens in the distance. Click Generate.

To generate better results, try using the Enhance Prompt feature in the search bar.

Step 2

You'll be shown four options to choose from. You can keep generating until you're satisfied with the result. I like the first option, but I want to see some similar styles. Select the paint icon at the top to generate more options similar to the image.

3. How to customize an image using ImageEdit

Step 1

I want a more realistic movie poster, so I will select Generate Similar and change my style description to make it realistic. Click Generate.

Step 2

Great! This is more what I was looking for. Now, I need to change the shape of my image so that it's poster size. Select Expand, change the ratio to 9:16, and click Expand.

Make sure to save your changes by selecting Keep.

Step 3

Using the Replace feature, take a small brush and drag it in the top left corner of your document. Edit your description so that it includes a UFO in the background. Select Replace when you're done.

Step 4

I want the focus to be on the astronaut, so let's Crop our image.

Step 5

This image is better, but I want to make it more eye-catching. Refine your description to include meteor showers, and select the area on the image you want to replace. You may need to repeat this step multiple times to get your desired result.

Step 6

I decided that my poster wasn't quite the size I wanted it to be. Use the Expand tool and change the ratio to 3:4.

Step 7

As I mentioned earlier, you may need to try the Replace option multiple times until you get your desired result. Select Keep when finished.

Step 8

Our image is too small for a movie poster, so let's use the Upscale 4x option to increase its size.
