How to Create a Nonprofit Presentation Using a PowerPoint Template

Do you need to raise funds and awareness for your nonprofit? You need a pitch deck so your nonprofit organization can gain support from donors and the community.

This slide has been customized from NGO, a great Elements PowerPoint template for nonprofits.

There's lots of information out there for putting together a business presentation. But if you're creating for a nonprofit, you'll want some advice made with organizations like yours in mind.

In this tutorial, we'll look at how you can create and customize a non-profit pitch deck. You'll also get some helpful tips for making your PowerPoint even better.

Special Presentation Concerns for Non-Profits

So, what makes non-profit pitch decks so different from typical business presentations? Let's look at some of the considerations you'll have for PowerPoint presentations for nonprofit organizations:

  • Sharing your impact. Unlike for-profit businesses, you won't have impressive revenue figures to share with your audience. Finding out how to share your impact without financial figures can be a unique challenge.
  • Highlighting community need. The needs of your community fuel your work. As a nonprofit, it's important to show that what your organization offers is needed within the community.
  • Meeting special requirements. Sometimes, you'll have to create a PowerPoint for a grant. Making sure you meet the grant's tough requirements is a key consideration when making your slide deck.

Despite these considerations and others, it is possible to create a successful presentation. I'll use a template to show you how to create a solid nonprofit pitch deck.

NGO: A Nonprofit Strategic Plan Template

This tutorial is made possible by NGO. It's a great nonprofit pitch deck example found on Envato Elements.

What I like about this nonprofit business plan template is its unique slides. You'll find vibrant color themes, stylish fonts, and useful infographics in this download.

I'll use NGO for this tutorial, so you can follow along if you have an Envato Elements subscription. Just download this template and follow my steps.

The tutorial was written using Sonoma 14.2.1 OS. If you’ve got a different operating system or a different version of PowerPoint, your steps may be slightly different.

How to Create a Convincing Nonprofit Slide Deck

Time to start creating slides with our nonprofit pitch deck example. I'll use NGO to create three types of slides: meet the organization, community needs, and financial overview.

1. Meet the Organization Slide

Let's start by creating a slide to show your audience who you are. NGO has a few slides that can introduce your nonprofit, but we'll start with slide 10.

NGO has great default colors, but they may not match your organization's branding. The first thing we'll do is change the color scheme. Click on the Design tab at the top.

You'll see a theme gallery in the top left. Click the down arrow to expand the theme gallery. You can choose one of these theme alternatives for your nonprofit business plan template.

If the premade themes don't quite fit your branding, you can make one for yourself. Next to the theme gallery, you'll see a variants gallery with four slides. Click on the down arrow to open the variants gallery menu.

Hover over Colors, then click Customize Colors... at the bottom of the menu. A new window opens with color customization options. From here, you can fine-tune the look of your nonprofit strategic plan template.

Once you've got your new color theme, start customizing the slide. Add in some text that briefly explains your nonprofit. Don't worry about going too in-depth. There are more slides you can use to add details.

Finish the slide by clicking the image placeholder icon and adding an image that represents your organization. This could be a group picture of staff or of the people your nonprofit impacts. I'm going to use a volunteering photo from Envato Elements.

Here's how my finished About Us slide looks:

The minimal slide features a few lines of text and a nice picture. And all it took to customize was a few clicks! Let's look at how we can customize the other two slides.

2. Community Needs Slide

Sharing the needs of your community is key to your presentation. We're going to use the design of slide 20 for this topic.

Instead of directly customizing slide 20, we'll duplicate it first so we can have a slide for testimonials later. Right-click slide 20 from the pane on the left and click Duplicate Slide. Once duplicated, change the title for this slide.

Instead of a quote, let's add bullet points. This could be a great time to highlight any statistics about the people or cause your nonprofit serves. Pair that with a compelling photo in the image placeholder.

Let's see how these elements can come together on this slide:

3. Financial Overview Slide

The finance side of nonprofits is how they can help so many in need. Let's customize slide 42 to show audiences how your organization uses its funding. This is a key step if you're making a nonprofit budget presentation from this template.

I'm going to customize this slide to highlight the costs of new services and initiatives. I'll keep this slide brief, with only project names, descriptions, and estimated cost. You can do the same and supplement your nonprofit budget template with a more detailed financial handout.

The table is easy to edit. Let's see how we can make it look in this nonprofit pitch deck example:

As you can see, creating nonprofit pitch deck doesn't have to take long, based on the examples above. Using a pre-made template like NGO lets you cut down on design time while giving you a canvas to express your ideas.

5 Tips for Making Better Non-Profit Presentations

We've looked at how to create some stunning slides for a nonprofit pitch deck. But I want to leave you with even more tips for making PowerPoint presentations on non-profit organizations.

1. Get to Know Donors

Use your nonprofit strategic plan template to effectively get donations by getting to know your donors. Before you start creating slides, keep your donors at the top of your mind.

This can be easier said than done when you're focused on your impact and mission. But doing some research about potential donors will go a long way. Find out what about your nonprofit will resonate with them and try to connect on that level.

2. Use Storytelling

One of the best ways you can connect with donors is through storytelling. This advice applies to all types of presentations, but it's key for nonprofits.

Unlike other organizations, nonprofits are uniquely positioned to use actual stories. Here's the time to include success stories of people your organization has helped. Use these compelling stories in your nonprofit business plan template.

3. Stay Grounded in Data

As you put together your nonprofit strategic plan template, don't forget about data. Having key figures about your impact and financials work to highlight your success stories. With those two elements working together, you can drive home the importance of what your nonprofit does.

4. Keep it Minimal

While PowerPoint is a visual aid, it can run the risk of becoming a distraction. This can be avoided by keeping your slides minimal.

This doesn't mean you have to stick to nonprofit pitch deck examples with plain white and gray backgrounds. All this tip means is to avoid using too many colors, multiple clashing fonts, and other distracting elements.

5. Have a Call to Action

What do you want your audience to do? The answer to this question will be a great conclusion to your presentation. Instead of ending on a simple thank you screen, you can direct your audience to do something that will benefit your nonprofit.
