Sometimes the simple things are the hardest to draw. A heart shape, for example—deceptively simple, but it's so easy to mess it up! In this tutorial I will show you how to draw a perfectly symmetrical heart step by step. Show your love for someone by drawing them a perfect little heart!

1. How to Draw a Heart
Step 1
Draw two identical circles side by side.
Step 2
Cross them with two lines to divide them into quarters.
Step 3
Draw a line under the circles, connecting their vertical middle lines.
Step 4
Draw another line down from the middle of it. It should be slightly shorter than the diameter of the circles.
Step 5
Draw a horizontal line below, and enclose it with two vertical lines touching the sides of the circles.
Step 6
Divide each half of the "rectangle" into halves, and make the line under the circles longer.
Step 7
Draw a horizontal line in the middle of the inner rectangle.
Step 8
Divide the extension of the line under the circles into thirds.
Step 9
Draw the outline of the heart through the guide lines:
Step 10
Draw a huge circle almost covering the heart, slightly shifted to the right.
Step 11
Draw two more circles on its top and bottom. The top one should be bigger.
Step 12
Outline the circles.
Step 13
Outline the upper part of the heart.
Step 14
Sketch the oval base of the pulmonary artery.
Step 15
Sketch its general shape and direction.
Step 16
Add some thickness in the branching.
Step 17
Draw both ends of the artery.
Step 18
"Copy" the side of the base oval all along the guide lines to figure out the final shape.
Step 19
Outline the artery.
Step 20
Draw the aorta using the same method:
Step 21
The aorta has some branching on top:
Step 22
Don't forget about the vena cava!
Step 23
Add some pulmonary veins to make the heart more detailed.
Step 24
Add some small arteries and veins on the surface of the heart.
2. How to Finish a Drawing of a Heart
Step 1
Outline the basic shape of the heart.
Step 2
Outline the "pipes".
Step 3
Add some thickness to the openings of the pipes.
Step 4
Draw the base of the pipes.
Step 5
Outline the blood vessels.
Step 6
Add some subtle shading made with lines to accentuate the 3D form of the heart.
Step 7
By adding more lines on the surface of the heart, you can make it look darker.
